Rongai is the only route from the north, close to the Kenyan border. It is drier and quieter than the southern routes, with gentle slopes. You visit the beautiful Mawenzi Tarn lake and come down the Marangu side.

  • Quiet and less crowded
  • Drier — good in the rainy season
  • Mawenzi Tarn below Mawenzi peak
  • Gentle slopes for beginners
