From budget camping to ultra-luxury lodges: average daily costs, what changes the price, what is included and how to save money.
The cost of a Tanzania safari depends on the time of year, the type of accommodation, the number of travellers and the length of your trip. There are options for every budget, from affordable group safaris to luxury private trips.
Average costs per person per day
- Budget: US$250–350
- Mid-range: US$400–700
- Luxury: US$800–1,500+
- Ultra-luxury: US$1,500–3,000+
These estimates usually include accommodation, park fees, meals, transport and a professional guide.
What changes the price?
Time of year. High season (June–October) has the best wildlife and the highest rates; shoulder season (January–March) brings calving and slightly lower prices; green season (April–May and November) has the lowest rates and quieter parks.
Type of safari. Budget safaris use camping or simple lodges and shared vehicles; mid-range uses comfortable lodges and tented camps; luxury means premium camps, private game drives, fine dining and personal service.
Private or group. Group safaris share vehicle and guide costs; private safaris give you your own vehicle, guide and timing — ideal for families, honeymooners and photographers.
Length and parks. Longer trips cost more in total but often give better value; remote parks add transport costs. Five to seven days is ideal for first-timers.
What is usually included — and what is not
