A simple month-by-month guide to the weather on Kilimanjaro — and why you can climb all year.

You can climb Kilimanjaro in any month. But some months are easier, drier and clearer than others. Here is what our guides in Moshi tell every climber.

The best months: January to mid-March

These months are dry and a little warmer. The sky is often clear in the mornings, and there can be snow on the summit, which makes your photos beautiful. It is a great time for a full moon summit.

Also great: June to October

This is the long dry season and the busiest time on the mountain. Days are sunny, nights are cold. June and July can be very cold at the top, so pack a warm down jacket.

The rainy months: April, May and November

April and May have the long rains, and November has the short rains. The trails are muddy and the views are often hidden in clouds. If you must climb then, choose the Rongai route on the drier north side.

Our tip

The best time is the time you can come — and the route matters more than the month. Choose a route with enough days (7 or more) and you give yourself the best chance of standing on Uhuru Peak.
