7-Day Kilimanjaro Climb — Lemosho Route
The most beautiful route, starting in quiet rainforest on the west side and crossing the Shira Plateau.

Our most loved route: great views, the Barranco Wall and a high summit success rate.
The Machame route is one of the best ways to climb Kilimanjaro. You “walk high and sleep low”, which helps your body get used to the altitude, so more people reach the top. You see five climate zones, climb the famous Barranco Wall and come down a different way. It is called the “Whisky route” — but there is no whisky!
Route: Moshi – Machame Gate – Shira – Barranco – Karanga – Barafu – Uhuru Peak – Mweka
After breakfast we pick you up in Moshi and drive to Machame Gate (1,800 m). The porters pack the gear and you walk up through thick rainforest to Machame Camp.
You leave the forest behind and climb a rocky ridge covered with heather. The views open up and you see Kibo peak for the first time.
Today you climb to the Lava Tower (4,630 m) for lunch, then walk down to Barranco Camp. This "walk high, sleep low" day is the key to a good climb.
A fun scramble up the Great Barranco Wall, then a walk over ridges and valleys under the glaciers to Karanga Camp.
A short walk to Barafu, the base camp. Early dinner and rest — you start the summit walk before midnight.
We wake you around 23:30 with tea. You climb slowly to Stella Point on the crater rim for sunrise, then one more hour to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m). After photos, you walk down to Mweka Camp for a well-earned sleep.
A happy walk down through the forest to Mweka Gate. You get your summit certificate, say goodbye to the crew and we drive you to your hotel for a hot shower and a celebration.

We always suggest 7 days. The extra day gives your body more time to get used to the altitude, so your chance of reaching the top is higher.
Yes. It looks scary from below, but it is a scramble with your hands, not a rope climb. Most people say it is a highlight.
About 62 km (39 miles) in total, over 7 days.
Your group has its own private toilet tent at every camp.
