Overview

Often called the most scenic and best all-round route: a remote western start, the Shira Plateau and eight days for better acclimatisation.

The Lemosho Route is often described as the most scenic and best all-round route on Kilimanjaro. It starts on the remote western side and is quieter than the Machame and Marangu routes. The 8-day itinerary is built for acclimatisation using ‘climb high, sleep low’, which improves your chance of reaching Uhuru Peak, through rainforest, moorland, alpine desert and the summit glaciers.

Best time to climb

  • January to March: warmer temperatures, fewer crowds and excellent visibility.
  • June to October: cool, dry weather with clear skies — great for trekking and photography.
  • Avoid April–May and November: rain, muddy trails and reduced visibility.

Temperatures at altitude can drop below freezing, especially on summit night, so layering is essential.
